Ultra Shiny Point of Purchase

‘Ultra Shiny Point of Purchase Display’ plays upon advertising and marketing schemes of products in popular culture.

I am attempting to misdirect the quality of my glass produce by giving it the label of ‘Ultra Shiny’, suggesting that my work is somehow better than the rest simply by its status of ‘Ultra Shiny-ness’. Stickers stating this fact are placed onto the products which are sold at bargain prices. I am challenging the conceptions of value in a high skilled, high crafted medium by using adjectives synonymous with technology and trend to boost the image of an otherwise second rate product. Similar tactics are used in advertising and marketing that we are bombarded with ubiquitously throughout our lives. This satirical project is confronting the way we evaluate glass as a medium and how products can become objects of promise and misdirection.
